Key Leadership Promotions at Weber Shandwick China BEIJING– David Liu(刘希平), managing director of Weber Shandwick China since 2006, has been promoted to the position of Chairman. He has also been appointed as chairman, China, for Interpublic’s Constituency Management Group (CMG), which houses IPG’s specialist marketing services businesses including such well-known global brands as FutureBrand, GolinHarris, Jack Morton, Octagon and Weber Shandwick. Darren Burns, managing director of Weber Shandwick’s Shanghai and Guangzhou offices since 2007, replaces Liu as managing director, Weber Shandwick China. Burns will continue to report directly to Liu who, in turn, continues to report to Tim Sutton, Asia Pacific chairman of CMG. “We have a truly exceptional leadership team in China,” said Sutton. “The outstanding growth we have seen in our Weber Shandwick business over the last five years, and its premier reputation, is attributable not only to David’s and Darren’s client-focused vision; but also to their track record in working closely together with other senior colleagues to provide strong, stable and harmonious leadership for all our people. “David has always strongly been committed to integrated marketing. His new responsibilities for CMG will give him the platform to add value to all of our businesses in China and address the needs of the growing number of clients looking for multi-disciplinary marketing solutions. “Darren’s promotion is a natural career progression for someone who has already proved his ability to provide strong leadership in Shanghai and who is well able to take on the exciting opportunities Weber Shandwick has for further growth in China.” David Liu has spent the last 12 years of his career at Weber Shandwick, starting as head of corporate communications and public affairs in the Beijing office in 2000. He was appointed general manager of the Beijing office in 2004; managing director of that office in 2006 and managing director of Weber Shandwick China in 2006. Darren Burns joined Weber Group in 1999 and then moved to GolinHarris, Weber Shandwick’s sister PR company within CMG, in 2000. He was appointed managing director of its Taiwan office in 2005. He was appointed managing director of Weber Shandwick Shanghai and Guangzhou in 2006.
