BEIJING - Adam Dunnett(唐亚东), former general manager of the European Chamber in Beijing(中国欧盟商会) and former Canadian government trade official, has been named deputy managing director of APCO Worldwide’s Beijing office. Dunnett will work with Managing Director Gregory Gilligan, former general manager of corporate affairs for McDonald’s China, to oversee daily operations and client service for APCO in Beijing. Dunnett has counseled and represented companies and industries on market entry and public policy issues in China, while simultaneously advocating for increased market access and better operating conditions for businesses. "Adam is an accomplished business strategist with a strong background in government relations," said Kenneth Jarrett, chairman of the firm’s Greater China operations. “He has a comprehensive understanding of how China’s government impacts commerce, and he knows how to identify and leverage new opportunities for both domestic and international companies in the Chinese market. We are pleased to welcome him to our team.” As general manager of the European Chamber’s Beijing office, Dunnett managed daily operations, developed comprehensive strategic plans and implemented policies on behalf of one of China’s most influential foreign lobbying organizations. He oversaw the lobbying of 36 industry groups that collectively comment on more than 60 laws and regulations per year and served as a key Chamber spokesperson to Chinese ministries, national governments, and foreign and Chinese media. Dunnett was also responsible for developing, co-managing and executing several high-level European Commission-funded projects including the EU SME Centre in China, the China IPR SME Helpdesk and Asia Invest. “I’m pleased to join APCO’s global team of government and business experts, and I look forward to contributing to the strategic growth of the firm’s Beijing presence,” said Dunnett. “My experience helping companies successfully facilitate policy and trade in China will enable me to effectively counsel multinational clients who are looking to expand investments, both inward and outward, to new markets.” Dunnett previously served as commercial officer for the Canadian Embassy in Beijing where he managed Canada’s first natural resources office in China, helping companies increase their access to the Chinese market. Dunnett was a special projects officer for the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa earlier in his career.
